Yeah, and I've got this project 51 Q-car that I'd love to find a home for. $3K would buy it, but you'll have to come with a truck and trailer to get it - rotiserrie included![:p]

I own a 50 Studebaker coupe. I think the car is a work of art. When I was looking for a car to restore I was thinking Ford,Chev, but when I spotted a yellow 50 studebaker coupe I had to have one. I had never seen one up to that point.I found one in Ind. Pulled it home ,restore it.
Someday That is going to be a rare car. Just happy to say that I own a Studebaker coupe.
I plan on going to South Bend. Never been there before. What is like? What would be to best days to see the cars?

Jeff, Thrusday's the day to be there to see the most cars. That's the day of the judging (concours), so it stands to reason that the most nice cars will be there then.;)

"Q" was the designator for a Business Coupe. Actually, Studebaker called them "3-passenger coupes":D

Bensauber - Here's a quick lesson in decoding the body types. "Q" is code for "the absolute coolest car on this or any other planet". Q-4 (which mine is, see below) designates "Custom" which means it came basically stripped of anything not necessary to make the car stop and go.

Matthew - have you ever seen the bulletnose roadster someone built on the frame of an old Studebaker Indy racer? Longer hood than stock to cover the President eight, short rear deck - sounds like a muscle car - right?

I don't have any pix, but perhaps someone else can post a link.

Yes, Leonard - that's the one! Thanks for posting it.
(I love the Rudge knock-off magnesium wheels)

It has been featured in many auto mags over the years (AutoWeek, Cars & Parts, etc.) - perhaps someone ought to re-visit it again.

I always thought a biz coupe would look good with the roof moved back a few inches to the trunk, extend the hood the same amount - then put a straight 8 or other long (even a V10 or 12) under the hood. Neat, or not?

There's a 50 Biz Coupe roadster here in Visalia. It's been collecting dust in the back corner of a shop for at least 10 years now. Has a rag top fitted and it's chopped. 600HP BBC for power and was set to have "woody" trim on it's sides. I don't know that it'll ever be finished. Guy lost steam on the project and it'll probably fall to his kid to see it done someday.[:I]

I've seen pics of that thing before. I didn't realize that it was built on a real Indy car though! [:0][V]
