  • Deep-N-Hock Follies - May 2011

    I love to co-process....whatever...
If two things can be happening at once, so much the better.
Like...Draining the oil on the pressure washer while I walk to the tool shed to get the gas can with fresh gas in it.
    That kind of thing.
    Speaking of pressure washers...
I changed one muffler on the yellow truck this morning.
(Too lazy to change the other one....I'll wait until it needs it)...
While the truck was up on the lift I noticed everything was filthy, and oily.
Most of the goo on the diff was from the pinion seal.
Ick... And after scraping and wire brushing it, the thing is leaking between the seal case and the pinion housing.
The seal lip is fine. The trans output seal is fine. The rear crank seal is fine.
The front crank seal is fine. The power steering pump as a teeny little drip on it.
    The steering box....whoaaa....
That thing is leaking out of the input shaft and the output shaft.
Made note of those two things, and got out the pressure washer, which has been idle since last fall.
Prepped it for the season (see comment above)...
What sloppy drippy joy it is to clean the bottom of the truck up on a lift.
I need raingear like Matthew had on the other day.
Quick soap soak and then a quick wash (didn't want to trash the shop too bad)..
Quick leaf blower dry off....and a squegee of the floor..
Set up the big fan to help dry things off...
And into the house to yack on the forum (co-processing, you know!) and eat lunch.
Bath and detail this afternoon. Big show next Saturday, and I will be in Viginia all week.
    Pic's later...
    Jeff

      I am all powerful!
I can break stainless steel balls in a sandbox with a rubber hammer.

(Well, I can break a rubber hammer in the workshop hitting a muffler.... Close enough?)

Went to 'The Landings' car show with Pat Skelly Saturday..
There was an awesome '52 sedan there that was 'perfect'.
The owner was not an SDC member, so Pat worked on him for a while.
He left before the end of the show and was not able to personally accept his deserved award.
        Stunningly nice day!

Jeff, you seem to have almost too much fun even in circumstances when you really 'aren't having fun' at all. Instead of follies when I read your stuff, I think 'frivolities'!

                      Hot here today...
Up early and spent the early AM cleaning and re-organizing the shop.
Decided to recycle/re-use the steel frame pieces that held the four post lift together for shipping...
Add a can of $2 spray paint....
                      CASO at it's best!
                      Jeff

Added some cheapie casters (no real weight on them so to speak)...

Welded up some scrap tubing and cut some 45's to make braces...
Put it together as a rack to hold the roll around casters for the four post lift.

Everything stays inside the footprint of the frame, so storing it is easy...

                        roll-around, roll-arounds?

That's great Jeff, a roll-around for the roll-arounds!! That is the ultimate overkill!

I guess it depends on your use of your shop, it's size, flexibility etc. but most people end up storing those for "someday" or salvaging them, because they bolt the hoist down where it needs to be, and never plan to move it.

I'm so wishy washy.. I've moved the four post lift three times trying to decide where to bolt it down.
And, since my floor is fairly new and flat, the lift is rock solid even though it's not bolted down...
Wallspace to hang them is at a premium, so a $6 cart (caster cost) is the way to go...
