Which camshaft would benefit a 259 V8, say with 500 cfm carby and minimal overbore?

Cheers

It depends on what type of driving you intend with the car, but for general street use, I recommend the stock cam. You can put the R1 cam in and it will give you a rough idle and more power at speed, but it doesn't like to drive in traffic at regular speeds, and is not much fun for normal driving.

Talk to Fairborn Studebaker--I have one of Ted Harbit's R1/2+ cams in my 259. It peps it up quite a bit without the rough idle. Runs fine in traffic, too.

Rough idle with an R1 cam?? Wow, thats a first. Compared to brand X
cars, up to the 276 duration R3 cam is "mild". We installed an R3 in
a 259 - wasnt a good match. I agree Fairborn would be a good place to
ask, perhaps Ted Harbit will chime in on this one, didnt he run a 259
at one point in his long career?
