  • Speedo / Tach / Gauges: Need Photo of 36-39 Coupe Express Speedometer/Dash

I'm re-creating the Speedometer typeface for a Coupe-Express from a completely destroyed original, and I need to know what the the numbers 0-40 looked like so I can re-create them in CAD and have th letters Vinyl cut. Since the original was some sort of Bakelite type early plastic, it's cracked, faded and mostly gone.

Attached is the work in progress. The one number I'm not confident with is the "3" which I had to freelance in the style of the other letters and doesn't look right to me, so I'm wondering if any of you have a similar dashboard you could share a photo of so I could get these letters correct for this restoration.

Also, I know this dashboard was shared with some other Studebaker Models, but I'm unsure of which year/model. If anybody knows where I could find an original, let me know as well.

Welcome! The Coupe Express was produced from 37-39. Each year featured a unique instrument panel that wasn't shared with any other year. What year do you have? Gauges were shared with the Commander cars, possibly the Presidents but I'm not certain.

    Here's a metric '38.

Here's a photo of my 1937 Coupe Express (same as Dictator) speedometer section also showing a couple of the gauge faces.
Hope this helps. PS: I hope it comes through. I am not to good at this. If not, I will try again.

MSC: You didn't say what year you are looking for. I am not familiar with 1938 and 39, and think I heard they were
the same. Also, as you note from my previous post, there is no 30 in the 1937 dash panel, so you don't need to worry about
that. Finally, if you are looking for an original from 1937, I know there are some out there. Why don't you post back on this thread and fill out the details.
