I recently bought a 51 Studebaker 2 door sedan at an auction. The title from 1963 says the id number is 818710. The closest that I can find on the car is a plate inside the drivers door frame that says the serial number is G1033077. Am I missing something or is there another place I might find a different number. I checked the dash, trunk, engine bay and frame and could not find the first number. There is no engine in the car. Any help would be appreciated.

818710
That would be the original Engine Number, prior to 1955 in several States including Calif. Cars were registered by their Engine Number, and that IS a '51 Champion Engine Number.
By ordering the Production Order from the Studebaker National Museum, you will be able to prove that your Serial Numbered Car came with the Title Engine number when New (if it was never changed). Then the DMV will register it by it's Serial Number after verifiying it, like it should have been in the first place.Last edited by (S); 04-02-2011, 06:36 PM.
