Just installed a Mallory dist. Car starts right up but cannot accelerate it bogs down sometime backfires. Any idea?

Either the timing is way off or you have plug wires crossed if the engine ran well before installing the Mallory distributor. There is the possibility that you now have a weak spark caused by the Mallory ignition which will allow the engine to start, but not run well under load as the farther you open the throttle, more voltage is needed from the ignition system to fire the plugs.
