  • Trans. Rebuilt, Back in,110 Mile Shakedown

I moved a little closer to being able to drive to the S E zone meet today.
I had broke my transmission, back when I first got my 53 running. I stuck
in a back up trans., and it had a bad low gear. So after a few months of
looking for a cluster gear, L&R slide, and a reverse idler, I finally ordered
gaskets and seals, and rebuilt my trans. Finished switching out the trans.
today, and took the car for a 110 shakedown run. The trans. worked fine
and the car ran beautiful. This was really a lot of fun. I drove about 40 miles
on 2 lane, running between 45 and 60. Then about 60 miles on the interstate,
at 70 to 85. The little coupe has a sweet spot around 70 to 72. Really cruises
good there. I think I will keep the 3.42 rear end. I had FUN today.

Good News, sounds like you are in the pay off stage, hard work pays off. Think about a more ambitious cruise, the CanAm
is only 7 months away. If you make it I'll buy you a beer. More miles=more fun.

Hey, that's cool. This is with a 232? OD or not? Your weather must be good, or did you get your heater hooked up? I finally got my automatic removed, the 'easy to remove-just unbolt it' batwing crossmember only took me about 20 hours of work to remove. We had a record high of 13 C on Thurs. making it easy to work in the unheated garage, then the weather turned sour yesterday went down to -20C, and that's when I spent 4hrs. degreasing the frame and trans. tunnel...not so fun when it's that cold out to do such a messy job. Cheers, Junior

This is with a 55 259, Junior. Three speed O.D. The weather gave me a break yesterday and today.
Around 70 degrees both days. I agree about the cold. It is not fun for me when it's too cold. This is
a hobby (passion) not a job.
