Just installed Edelbrock 1406 (600 CFM) carb on my 63, 289, GT. With some modification was able to keep the original Studebaker air cleaner assembly but it has a 2" round air intake. Would this provide adequate air flow. The air cleaner assembly looks small for a V8 as it measures 12" by 4" round. ken, deltaville, va

In actuality, it'll choke the intake air quantity (amount) to somewhat less than the already too big a carburetor wants at max. flow.
So, a rejetting, and or spring swap might be in order for max performance with the "combination" you have now.
While I don't mean to come off sounding like a pain in the butt...you just haven't put a good combination of parts together.
People insist on a large carburetor for some reason, then in this case, choke it down..
Around town, the engine might run ok with the small inlet (once the jetting is taken care of). I don't know...this setup will be a challenge to get the jetting right.
Have fun with your new goodies..!

Adapting a New '63-'64 Jet Thrust and Avanti R1 Air Cleaner with the available 4 1/8" Air Cleaner to 5 1/8" Edelbrock AFB clone 4 Barrel Adapter is another option which allows for greater air flow and the BEST looks of any Air Cleaner ever made. See your friendly local Studebaker Vendor!StudeRich

Bob Helm, in Royce City, Texas has a nice air cleaner for that carb. I put a 500 cfm on mine, and the air cleaner he sells worked just fine. His price was better than Summit, IIRC. His number is 972-843-3402. Bob had a stroke a few months back, but when I talked to him, he was back at it. He did not advertise in TW this month for some reason.
