  • 1970 Buick stage III block

Probably a sacrilege on the Studebaker site but at the PSMCD's last fall there were several Stage-1 1970 Buicks running. I'm guessing Stage-1 because I think the Stage-2 and 3 were parts that came in the trunk so were not factory installed.

In any case, they were consistently running in the 12.7 sec range and all had automatic transmissions as I remember. Standing next to the track gives an adrenalin rush that is hard to surpass in the stock divisions of drag racing. They leave the line with a thunderous roar that just builds as they run through the gears down the quarter mile. It just doesn't end until they let off the gas. Just about as good as it gets for the big block crowd.

Why post this memory here. Just that the post brought back a great memory among many at the PSMCD's and it made me smile.

I'd sure like to see/hear/feel a Stage-3 setup running on full race rear tires to put all that power to the track.

Thanks for the post and the smile.
