Who can tell me about the headlight rings used on 53-55 Chamion sedans.
Are they steel?
Is the bottom mounting screw offset from centre?
What does the top mounting clip look like?
Does anyone have a spare for sale?
Please check out the pictures in my "Headlight Ring ID" thread and let me know!
Thanks

Custom models are identical, but painted body color.

Great picture, but see how the leading edge of this ring is FLAT like that used on the C/K cars. I have a bunch of these!
Ia tis picture of a Champion Sedan?

Did you read my post on the other thread about them belonging to a German car, since 'Hella' was/is a major OEM supplier there?

Yes.
But the ring I have was definitely made as an aftermrket replacement for a Studebaker C/K car. None of the VW, porche ,etc are even close.
Still Looking.

Brian, really confused here...why would Hella make an aftermarket replacement ring for a Stude, and are you looking for a mate to the ring you have, or are you just trying to ID the origin of it? When I was restoring my wife's Beetle, she came across a photo of a late ('73 and newer)Beetle in a VW magazine that had headlight rings that were(in her words) "so cute, it looks like it has eyelids"...at the time I thought they looked alot like my Stude's rings(they were complete rings, not the add-on eyelids) Her Beetle had Hella rings that were stamped stainless steel, so maybe it's a possiblity that Hella made a hooded style ring for v-dubs and you have one? Maybe hit some v-dub websites and see what they have. Another possibility is to check out Brazilian v-dub beetles, may get an answer there. ps, read your shaw mail, I sent you a link. Cheers, Junior

Good to hear from you....Happy New Year. I am going to go up to the barn and bring this ring down today so I can post a picture of it. It is a full ring and is quite different from the Vw Bus rings I bought on ebay last year, but you could be right. I am open to any and all suggestions. The Bosch ring I have that matches the Halla ring is definitely chrome plated brass and the Hella is also plated not stainless.
I thought I had this headlight problem beat until yesterday when I recieved the "Steel" ring I purchased on ebay.
Can of worms is open again!
