Nice car. Another owner that does not seem to realize that this car is a President Classic model. At least in 1956 it says so on the outside of the car. Not so in 1957.

That makes two of us. However, the price still seems a bit high for what one is getting. If they want six grand for the car the windshield could at least be fixed. add to that the incorrect interior. This car has been mentioned here before.

All the same, even if the price is a bit high, I don't think it's entirely out of line. After all, this is a beautiful car.

Took a little searching and also getting my brain to work right (some days that's a lot of work all by it self), anyway, I found the original thread on this car:

        EDIT:
OOPS!! My mistake, I meant eighty-five hundred above as the price. Way out of line for a car in this condition. It's sad really, but there you have it.

Ron, did you talk them down? Everything I've seen says $8500, but you say six grand, and that's a lot closer to where it should be...

Uh...where does it say Classic on the outside of a '56, Gary? BP
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

I was wondering the same thing, but then I remembered the last one I saw~

It had a VERY nice set of those round emblems on the rear quarter panels~
I thought to myself- those have gotta be getting hard to find...

but do they say President Classic on them? I don't remember!!!

Did all the Studebaker Presidents from 1956 to 1958 have the rear vent windows or just the long wheel base models? I thought that the shorter based "Presidents" were just like the Commanders only better appointed.
All the 1955 Presidents were long wheel based and all had rear vent windows (deluxe models fixed).

I just HAD to take a look in the parts book~
the same one (1312835p) was used on ALL '56 Presidents.

So I guess that's not it...

The short answer is- yes-- only the long wheel base Presidents in '56 & '57, and ALL '58 Presidents (that were not hardtops, of course) had the vent windows.

Since the rear doors on a "W" body '56-'57 President are the same short doors and WINDOWS as a Champion or Commander, there is is no way they could have opening Vent Windows. These are only used on "Y" Body's (120 1/2" W/B) from '53 to '58 and on 113" W/B '61 to '65 Lark & Lark Type Cruisers with the long rear doors.
Maybe what is confusing you, is that they just did not build any '55 Pres. W Bodies.

The '56 & '57 W Body Presidents were not better appointed Commanders, they were Commanders with President 289 Engines!
The W Body was dropped from the President line in 1958.

Oh dear, my mistake... sorry. My friend, if I had the money and I could talk them down to a reasonable price, the car would be mine. However, even six would be high with the minor issues the car has and a broken windshield.

Ok, thank you. You have answered my question about the vent windows, I will go further as to "suggest" that long wheel based Presidents were "Classics". Refer Fox Cannon page 248 "The President line was expanded to include a short wheelbase four door,.......The President Classic four door sedan was the only long wheelbase (120-1/2") sedan offered. President Classics continued with the rear seat center armrest and rear door vent windows..
If this car has Vent Windows it has to be the President Classic regardless of signage.

For '56 and '57 that would be correct. In 1958 they were just called 'President'.

I will try to prove you "correct" according to "Cannon & Fox" page 257. Harold Churchill reduced the sedan lineup to two models each ... No President Classic is mentioned.
