I need to replace the gasket (actually there is none) under the oil pump and under the cover but can't seem to be able to remove the driven pump gear from the shaft. According to the shop manual the gear is held onto the shaft by a Woodruf key and should be able to slide off the shaft with little heroics. There is about 1/4" play in the shaft that allows the gear/shaft to slide out of the body about 1/4" which allows a bent screwdriver blade to be placed between the gear and the pump case. One should be able to tap the shaft gentle into the engine said distance effectively pulling the gear off the shaft by the 1/4". This does not seem to work and I resist using more force.
How is the dang rear supposed to be removed?
There is no clearance between the gear and the pump body for a gear puller...
Thanks,
John
