So far we have '52s, Larks, and '58s. I'd like to see more of my own favorite years of prewar Studebakers, '39s and '40s!

OK Chris...stand by...haven't got as many prewar car pix myself, but there's a few, including your own '40 at SB...

The most appropriate car to begin with is Chris' own ex-Ely Stokes '40 Champion 2dr sedan...seen at the May 2010 Michiana swap meet in SB.

Kind of a neat melancholy "window in time" shot through the Champion, showing a '60 Hawk parts car (now absorbed into a '61 Hawk project here in the Hamilton area)

This one's neither a 39 nor a 40, but represents the final version of the classic prewar Champion design. '46 coupe at York.

Here's mine. '40 President. Final Assy. Date: 12/20/39. Model 6C W3. Originally Dove Grey.
Shipping destination New York, NY.
Only option shown on Production Order is DX40 -- Phantom Wheel.

I purchased it in 1987 from the man who had owned it for about 40 years.
Before someone asks, it does have a non-Studebaker hood ornament added by
one of its previous owners. The gentleman I bought it from drove it as his daily
driver into the 1960s.

I think that this is a 40' Commander Coupe. The grill's are 40' and on the side of the hood you can barely make out "COMMANDER"

I knew the other owner of that fine vehicle from many years ago, and I would see it out on occasion too at the local shows here. I always used to joke that it had a few years on the El Caminos, even though the "bed" was an accessory for those cars.

Yes, I finished the restoration of the car in 1982 and sold it to Glen in 1989. It was first shown at the Hershey AACA meet in 1982. The box was NOS when I purchased it from Rolando Brothers Studebaker in Ladd, Illinois in c.1978. I bought the car back from Glen's widow Vera this past summer (2010)

Here are some pics from the H.A.M.B. I tried to make sure they were '39 and '40 but some '41's and '42's may have gotten in there. Actually there is an entire thread on H.A.M.B. about '39 through '42 Studebaker Gassers. It is surpising how many of these are old gassers that survive today.

Those are some great pics! Keep 'em coming! Though I will never build one out of mine, I really like to see the gassers. The only thing is, the top one is a '41. I just can't admire a gasser for too long, they make me want to do dumb and expensive things with my car... :p

Is that yours? That photo was taken at the 1988 International Meet in South Bend; more specifically, in the parking lot at the Holidome.

That can't be Dale's truck, I don't see any stainless overflowing out of the bed.

Sure wish I had a picture of he and Ted Harbit's maniacal grins as they loaded my truck to the brim with all that trim.
