  • What lowered the '58s?

Beside lowering the roof and installing 14" tires, did Studebaker do anything else to lower the '58s--such as lowering the floor?

Well, they did modify the floor in the rear driveshaft area. 58 is the first year of the one piece driveshaft.
Also, the rear springs were different ,(assemetrical for better ride), longer in rear section .

There is a photo in the SNM monograph on the 56-58 sedans that shows the change in the roofline. It is not major, & I think it would mostly be there with 14" wheels to fool the eye into thinking the car was say, about 3 and a half inches wider as Nature & Budd intended <g> I'm fond of the 'high-top' 57 stubble jumpers with the huge 15" wheels myself. You never know when wearing a Fedora while you are driving will come back into vogue. <ggg>

Come on, Bobby baby, break out that November '57 Motor Trend. The one with the flying car and the blurry pix of the '58 Pontiac Bonneville on the cover. It's right there in black and white (So why did I ask the question?)
