The theme for the May Fair was "Fun for Ewe". What's more fun than a Lark convertible. Here was my entry. I called it a StEWEdebaker. (That's Ewenis driving it)

Here's the last Lark that I bought. Should've kept the 289 4 speed that it had in it.

Chip--

Thought that 61 at York might be the one you bought...cool.

Bob--

Quite, although in '64 (as has been noted here) the Lark name did still show up in the brochures, in connection with the Challenger and Commander lines. That's why I omitted the 64-66 cars from my posted pix--except for group shots and that one R2 Commander that actually wears "Super Lark" decals. (Add in the 64-66s and I'd have posted twice as many pix...including two of your cars. BTW I miss seeing that sweet blue '60. It's the one I passed on in 2007 because it was too nice for me!)

What is the story on that '62-63 styling study? I have never seen that one before...someone should re-create it!! Very cool.

ChopStu--

A garage door fell on the original hood of that 61; iirc the owner, who was a Hamilton Chapter member at that time, did indeed use a '62 hood, less ornament, as a replacement (that's also why the front end of the car is in grey primer while the rest is a Ford truck pale blue). The wheels are Dodge. The owner sold the car, moved out west, then moved back...and repurchased the car! I think he now lives in the Toronto area. Presumably the 61 does too.

George--

Ooo. Haven't seen your Daytona firsthand...which would be why I have no photo of it. I love the red centre in the trim. Sets the car off perfectly.

I posted that pic and an interior pic here: http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/showthread.php?6042-CAR-NAMES-Studebaker-had-great-model-names/page3&highlight=splendida I believe it was a design exercise by Brooks Stevens to "sell" Studebaker management on the new greenhouse and dashboard design for 1963. Too bad the recessed door handles didn't make it to production.

I thought maybe you had - were you at Summit this year?

I forgot to mention, the yellow street/strip is AKAChampTrucking's. And - my Lark has some parts from the wreck in the early post from Matt (mbstude).

George--

Nope, have never been to Summit/Winks, but a group from Hamilton does go pretty much every year. Maybe in 2011, though by then I'll either have a job or be in school (I hope), so probably not in 2011 either!

And yes, I found out long after seeing and photographing that thunderin' yellow 61 (and even talking very briefly with the owner) that it was Rich's. The choke cap on my 62 came from Rich...but not off that car!

I will freely admit, I want your '62...I've got pix of it BTW from the SB swap meet this past May, but they aren't up on P'bucket yet, so I couldn't add one to this thread. There'll be several other Larks spotted that week that'll be new to my P'bucket coverage too...

Jon--

That wagon is "fab"...those wheels remind me of a '63 Lark 4dr I was mulling buying in '07...but in that case the entire Lark was that hue. My neighbours would probably like my low-key blue Lark even more if they knew about the pink one that nearly came to live with me instead...

Here are some that we have had. The black one was my father-in-laws, Leo Mace. He sold it to Lew and Janice Skelton. The gold one, was my dad's, Howard Taylor. It belongs to Milton and Emma Rafferty. The white convertible with the black front fenders, belonged to us. We sold it someone (can't remember their names) in St. Louis. The other car that belongs to our son Brian or Stude-Sled on the forum was purple at that time. Picture was taken at Mutton Hollow in Branson MO, which has gone out of business. Brian still has the car. Dusty

Thanks, the paint photographs a lot better than it actually is. The reason the car has '60 taillights is because I was driving it at college when we fixed it up so I didn't want to wreck the, unavailable at the time, '61 taillights. I have since got a pair of new correct taillights that I will put on before the national meet next summer.

Ooo...a '61 2dr wagon...that is a scarce car. (Even scarcer would be a survivor from the reported fleet order for '62 2dr wagons which Stude is said to have filled by installing '62 front sheetmetal on '61 wagon bodies. Had I the skills I'd almost like to have a go at recreating one of those; but the '61s are rare enough as it is...)

I still haven't made up my mind if I'll put the stainless around the window or not. It is a Delux and it has gone nearly 50 years with out it, but it probably would look better. Next spring I'm going to change back to the correct taillights, install the "police gauges" in the dash and hopefully put in new front springs and a-arm bushings. I would like to pull the frame and clean it up, but there is always something else that needs to be done that is usually easier. Plus I hate to take a driver a part.

I've found '61 Larks without stainless around the windows to be very rare. I've only seen one '61 4-door sedan without it, and photos of these two special ones.: http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/showthread.php?25546-Now-I-ve-got-3-Marshals-minus-one....&highlight=marshal

Here is my second Lark - 60s-W4. Built in September of 1959, sold in La Grange, Texas before the end of the year ($2023 - still have window sticker).

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l163/62champ/car/60%20W4/DSC03631.jpg

Drove it from Texas to new home in eastern Pennsylvania in June of 2005 - still has less than 52K original miles.

Radio (and aftermarket gauges) was added in by previous owner who bought the car in 1984 when it had accumulated 32K from the original owner. He also added chrome bits, took out rubber floor mats, and painted the car back in the mid-80s - other than that it is all original.

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l163/62champ/car/60%20W4/DSC02522.jpg

Look out...

I wonder if this Regal hardtop and the one I posted the photo of on the first page is the same car. 1962 was the only year the Lark hardtop was offered in two different models. I believe the Regal hardtop (J6) is rarer than the Daytona hardtop.

Trust me, a LOT can happen to a car in 25 or more years! All it can take is some mis-treatment for a year or two by an un-careful owner within those years. One reason it doesn't hurt to know a car's history from new. In England, a car's 'logbook' is considered part of the car, and if its present and kept updated, it can potentially add 10% to the car's value.

Very pretty NJ Lark, but the Hawk emblem in the steering wheel bugs me as much as a missing battery hold down. I like seeing the clock in the dash, but shouldn't the dash pad be ridged to go with the other Deluxe trim items? As much as everything else looks spot on, there should be a Lark emblem in the steering wheel.
Unless there isn't....

Always sad to see any Studebaker butchered like this Lark. What was the owner thinking???

Unless there isn't....Horn button and smooth dash pad are correct for this '59 Regal. Lot's of subtle changes between '59 and '60s.

Everything on this beautiful Turquois Green '59 Lark Regal looks correct except possibly for the nice looking Pleated FABRIC on the Seats. It has had the padded dash top replaced as original, smooth, semi gloss Vinyl.

All of the Hawk emblems are correct before they had LARK Bird emblems in 1960.

Lark Deluxe's were the stripped down bare bones version.

The dash pad may even be original, super nice car.

Thank you. I think in the picture here is some things you don't normally see. These were required here in the past, not anymore but are still on the car.

My Dad found a 1962 Daytona, 4 speed, 3.31 TT, bucket seats in 1967 and bought it for ($300) me to drive to high school. 1970, I joined SDC and am a Charter Member of the Midway Chapter of Hutchinson/Wichita. In the Army 1971-73, I used Newman/Altman catalog to rebuild my Lark. I had it painted by a fellow Army Buddy at Ft Campbell, KY paint shop. I rebuilt the motor with new crank, pistons, rings, Isky Cam ST-5 kit, Hurst shifter and Sun Tach. It was a fun car. I sold it to a fellow SDC in 1974. I met him later in 1981 and he said the car drowned in a flood.

I moved from Kansas to Colorado and found another Daytona. I never saw so many car lots in one city as Denver had. I found it tucked away on south Broadway. Another Red one, 1964, 4 speed, power disc brakes, 259, bucket seats and it had a Black vinyl roof. It looked Factory installed. It made the Daytona look sharp. I know now it was not original. It was all restored and waiting for me. It was $1500 in September 1980. I had to take a second job to pay for it because I had just bought a 1981 4 cyl Mustang (what a dog). I like Cragar Mags on my Daytona's. I got married in July,85, went on strike at work in Nov,85 and was laid off for 1.5 yrs. I sold the Daytona to a guy from WY who bought it for his 16 yr old Son. I would love to find another 4 speed Red Daytona, bucket seats-who has one?

I influenced my Army Buddy at Ft Campbell, KY so much that I got him to buy a 1964 Challenger, 259, 3-speed with OD from George Krem in 1973. We put on new fenders, Cragars and he drove it home to Minneapolis. Last week I told him that his Challenger was one of 274 manufactured in 64.
After I got out of the Army I found a 1964 Challenger, 6 cyl, 3 speed manual for my younger brother.

57535 My "Lark Type" Wagonaire, recently back from the dead. I have owned two 1962 Larks, a Regal 4 door, and a Daytona convertible, and a 1963 Daytona Wagonaire. And of course my Dad's last new Studebaker a 1964 Commander. All were great cars! "Love That Lark"

'60 wagon. Question, what is the correct color for a '60 grill emblem?. I bought a NOS red one, but I've looked at pics of others and they have black also.

The red is correct, but it is a real translucent red - not very dark at all.

Maroon semi-transparent Lacquer was the ONLY Color used on '60 Lark Emblems.
The '59 Larks had had a Hawk with Black Paint on the Lower Left side of the Grille.

(Left of a Car is always from the Drivers Seat, with L/H or R/H Drive).
