  • HELP PCV Specs

Does anyone have a drawing of the R2 PCV fitting showing the ball, spring, and internal dimensions. I plan to build a few and would like to get them close to originals.

    Thanks,
    Jim McCuan

No ball and spring to my knowledge - just a shuttle valve in a bore with seat.

Avantis do not use a standard PCV Valve as a Lark/Hawk, they use a fitting that is Hose to threaded male with a ball inside as Jim said.

I would get the part number from the Avanti Parts catalog and order the blueprint from the SNM.

The presence of an internal spring was my main concern. I've been told both ways, but the Studebaker ones I have either have no spring, or the spring has collapsed or stuck. Several Mopar which are similar in style do have a spring, but then they weren't designed for use with boosted intakes.

One would assume you could use whatever PCV valve the middle 60s Shelby
Mustangs used. Cubic inches are the same, interior volume should be close
and they used Paxtons, from what I remember.

I'm basing my comments on #1557845 used in early Avantis and listed for jet thrust engines. There is no spring but only a shuttle of triangular cross-section with an end that can be mistaken for a ball. I measured a new one and found that the orifice is 0.069". I do not have a later #1562731 for comparison.

The horizontal installtion on the R2 is what complicates it
No gravity to close it back

I bought the one on my R-2 from Dave Thibeault, paid about $8.00 Jim.

Air movement moves the shuttle opening or closing the valve. Blow and suck on it and you'll see the action. In most cases, there is no need to replace the unit - just soak it in carb cleaner 'till the shuttle moves back and forth freely. I suspect the 1557845 and the 1562731 are identical except for the body metal. The 1557845 one is brass.

I should have mentioned this is for a performance project and not a restoration. $8 is certainly reasonable and I can't make them for that. I just have a new toy, some appropriately sized material, and this would be a perfect project to start learning how to use it. Guess I can cut an original up. Brad, do you still have one without a home?
