Here are technical sheets and the complete rebuild manual for anyone looking. It covers up to 1961 models. Thanks to BigKev at Packardinfo.com. I wish we could have information like this on our website, too.

Found one thing that does not make sense, so far, all in all a great reference material. The book says in High Range, idle should be 375 rpm. In all the years I have owned my car, 375 rpm is a non running engine
All the Stude books say 600 rpm at idle. There are some interesting quick checks I have never seen

I think the Packard engine is much less aggressively cammed than... well... pretty much anything. It's a pretty mellow engine in stock form. I was never able to get mine to idle much below 450 or so without shaking however.

At 375, you could paint one fan blade a different color and count revs by it![:0]
Miscreant adrift in
the BerStuda Triangle
1957 Transtar 1/2ton
1960 Larkvertible V8
1958 Provincial wagon
1953 Commander coupe
No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

Must be a typo, I don't see how any car Co. could have used an Ultramatic after 1956, Detroit Packards, Nash, and Hudson were all gone before 1961!
