What can I replace the shellac on the cork float with? I have a 61 Hawk. The sender works fine but I think the e-10 gas dissolved the shellac from the float. -Jim

Several of us in the 1920s community have successfully used "crazy glue or super glue" to reseal the cork after it has dried out. We have cork in both the fuel sending units as well as in the carb.

Gas tank sealer should work,I have used it on brass ones but have not tried it on cork.( it will work on carb.floats also FWIW)

They sell plastic floats. You run the wire thru the "float" and seal with Crazy Glue.

A fellow up here took a hand full of senders from me and put plastic floats on them

S.I. sells the whole unit with either cork or plastic floats.

I have successfully used an old wine bottle cork, coated with POR 15, when I did not have any tank sealer available.
