Got the 55 Champion home and have begun the "process". Fortunately it came with new floor pans, getting those in will be my first step.

I have one question tho..are the two "wells" in the rear floors to place your feet in so knees are not under your chin or did they have some other function? Just curious, be kind this is my first Stude.

My 56 had them also. I think they were designed to hold water for the mice to drink. Untill they rusted through.

I believe the '53 was the first U.S.A. made vehicle that was under five feet high. The well was simply to keep the rear passenger's knees out of their chins. Wouldn't be difficult to enlarge the wells (why did they make them so narrow to begin with?). There's certainly room within the frame. But then it would be also be necessary to configure new rear carpet.
