Need some help. Getting ready to reassemble the engine and I acquired a new oil pump back in March from Lionel Stone. Today I noticed there are two distinct differences between the old pump that came out of the car and the new pump.
1. The new pump has a shorter shaft to which the pickup tube inserts.
2. More noticeably there is no hole drilled through to accept the cotter key to retain the pickup tube.
I'd like to get confirmation this is the incorrect pump before calling Lionel because maybe I'm missing something. I would like to email someone two comparison photos.
Thanks.

OK, I see the new pump has internal threads for the pickup tube but my car pickup tube and the new one I ordered from SI incorporate the cotter key, so not sure what to do now.

55's have a peculiar oil pump 535760 all by itself, not the same as the more common 1539412 '56-'58 and maybe later pump. It may have something to do with the special 6 quart oil pan that '55's used, and the pick-up pipe is different. As usual you have to be a bit carefull what you buy from LS.

If I recall, a couple years ago, I saw a cotter key on the pickup tube, but the pickup screen and cover could articulate, depending on the plane of the engine
