  • Engine # plate

Again with the engine # info.... Car I am thinking of looking at, the guy not to knowledgable about the car as was his fathers car. He says he thinks the engine # is
63R01527 and is on a metal tag or plate on the block. (maybe no RS even tho he says is a R2 unless the RO is really RS) Haven't been able to verify # with Stude Museum as Andy is on vacation. (darn) Did early 63 Avantis have engine #'s like this and not like the photo you all posted previously with it stamped on?
    Thank you,
    Diane

I am going to guess that you are referring to a body number plate in the engine compartment. Engine numbers are stamped into the block.

If the body number plate is the Vin #, then no. This # is different than the Vin #.

This sounds like the body number tag attached to the right inner fender. It says 63 RQ, not RO.

          Avanti Engine Number

Diane; the last post on your other Engine number topic shows you where to look for the Engine Number.

As it tells you there, there is Body Number on the right inner fender, Serial Number (the one on the Title) on the right frame rail near firewall, and Engine Number STAMPED INTO the front top of the Block, ALL THREE ARE DIFFERENT!

As Rich stated, the body number and the serial number (you refer to as the VIN) are different. The body number is on a plate in the engine compartment. The serial number is on a plate on the frame.
