  • Fuel gage calibration?

I've been filling up Barney whenever the gas needle hits "E" (naturally!); it takes about 8-9 gallons.

Well, cruising through my Lark owner's manual, I find that my fuel tank capacity is 18 gallons! So when the needle hits "E", I've got a 10-gallon reserve!

Now, I don't mind a fuel gage that's a bit pessimistic, but this is a little TOO much Is there any way to calibrate the gage, or is the sender shot? The gage does register full at a fill-up.

    Thanks!

Sounds like the sending unit in tank. It may have a float that is saturated or you might take it out and bend the wire arm, and adjust it. There is a procedure for testing, I believe, in the shop manual, I know in Motor's Manual.

Thanks Tex - I found it. Should have looked in the manual in the first place Guess I need to bend the float wire a bit. I remember the PO telling me he'd replaced the sender, so it was probably just bolted in and never calibrated.

While you're in there, why not replace that cork float with a brass one.

Since performing this swap, the fuel gauge in our GT has been spot-on.
