  • which gasket set for '63 T-86 w/overdrive?

    I ordered the 7181 gasket set but only the top cover and front bearing retainer seem to be correct,even though it says it's for T-86 w/ 6-bolt top cover.
    do I have to order the 7180 kit too,just to get all the right stuff?

      Most of the gaskets applicable to the overdrive section should be the same for either T86 or T96 and the R10 overdrive unit. I've never noticed any difference.

      I like to dispense with the paper gaskets, and seal the transmission up with TenBond 1104, which is a sealing product used extensively on the cases of Japanese motorcycles. I have had very good luck with the stuff. Try your local motorcycle shop, especially the Yamaha dealer. The stuff used to be sold under the "Yamabond" name, but even the Yammie dealers sell the TenBond product now.

        If you had ordered STUDEBAKER part number 1546282 it would be correct.

          top picture is from the 1963 Studebaker parts manual;

          the next 3 pictures the Studebaker parts are on the right,and the F*** parts are on the left;

          check out gasket set 8089A;

          http://www.bestgasket.com/drive_trai...e=Transmission Set (standard)

          then compare to the gasket set for 6-bolt top;

          the car is a 1963 fixed-roof Wagonaire w/259 2bbl. and T-86 O.D.

          better to get this stuff all figured out,so if anyone else is doing this job they'll save some time.
