    Storage of NOS convertible top

    A friend of mine has the opportunity to buy at a reasonable price, a N.O.S. convertible top for his Lark convertible. He does not wish to have it installed right away, as the present top on his car is still serviceable. He wonders what may be the best way to store the N.O.S. top, to preserve it best...any particular way to fold, keep in the (heated) house as opposed to garage, etc. Any ideas? He doesn't check in here too often; I told him I'd post and get back to him.

    First, I hope it's a lot cheaper then a new production top and includes a rear window. If 40 years of storage have not killed it, a few more won't hurt. If he does not have the rear window, it's unlikely that a new production window will fit, if he does, I'd bet it has permanent wrinkles by now. There is nothing special about a NOS top compared to a modern one.

      First, I hope it's a lot cheaper then a new production top and includes a rear window. If 40 years of storage have not killed it, a few more won't hurt. If he does not have the rear window, it's unlikely that a new production window will fit, if he does, I'd bet it has permanent wrinkles by now. There is nothing special about a NOS top compared to a modern one.

        what JDP said.. plus,I'd keep it warm and dry and away from mice. I'm worried about my headliner I bought 2 yrs ago-still in the box,on top my pool table.oh well..

            What those guys said, Bill. I can't think of any good reason to buy and try to install an NOS, 40-year-old top. The probability of it surviving the stretching and manipulation needed to properly install it is slim.

            However, on the bright side, [8D] it might make a good conversation piece if you could somehow design a framework to make it an awning/sun shade to sit under at car shows! BP

                    I just had a top put on my car. It was bought from SI about two years ago and hadn't been taken from the box. It was badly wrinkled and the installer had a hard time stretching it. FWIW.
