I received the following email from Bob Peterson, Castro Valley, CA in response to my email of another subject. He has lost his storage yard and is parting out a bunch of cars. He is planning to make South Bend and will deliver there.
"PAUL SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE TRIP, BUT HOPE YOU MAKE IT TO SOUTH BEND AND WE CAN GET TOGETHER, FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS WE HAVE BEEN CUTTING UP CARS AND TRUCKS FOR SCRAP AND SAVEING SOME ITEMS, ALL CAR FRAMES AND TRUCK BEDS, AND MOST TRUCK CABS, MOST "T" CABS ARE RUSTED AND NOT WORTH KEEPING, REAR END ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE, SOME FRONT END, SOME TAIL ENDS OF CARS ALL DOORS AND GLASS, ENGINES BY THE TONS, BUT ALL 6 CLYS. Wow, I am really sorry to hear that Bob at C&B Stude. cannot keep his vast collection of Studes. I have bought quite a few of his ebay parts. You know that sweet little Oasis Green '60 Lark VIII 4dr. Wagon that Dick Steinkamp bought and sold on ebay to bams50, came from Bob's yard!

Yup! Bob's losing his big yard and I'm trying to pare down what little I have and Chuck Naugle's fighting a losing battle as well. This sorta thing is going on all over. And the paradox is that while Studebakers, and interest in them, is on the rise, parts stashes (think of SASCO's plight too) are under seige.
Bob, myself, Dennis and others aren't getting any younger and no one seems ready to step up and be the savior of this stuff.
Even when there were still alot of Studes in wrecking yards out here - no one wanted to be bothered to go and save parts off them. It's always been easier to call N&A or SI or some other place and have something you've needed delivered to your door.[}:)]

I wish I could think of a feasible way to get stuff from the West coast to here... I've got the land, buildings, ability, and desire. I have a junkyard license that's permanently grandfathered in, so the stuff would be safe. I'd do it non-profit, just for the love and preservation of it. I am open to suggestions!

What I CAN do is keep looking for stuff I can get within a few hundred miles, and drag it in for safe keeping... which I'll do!

I got a call from Bob Peterson this am re our eastern swap meets. He is planning to come to Reedsville in November to deliver pre-sold frames and other Studebaker parts. For those of you who don't know him, he currently has a rented yard in Hayward, California where he stored 40 to 60 Studebakers. He is losing the yard next May and is trying to sell as much as he can to avoid having to scrap stuff. He has already hauled 1 1/2 tons of manifolds, six-cylinder blocks, etc to the scrappers. He is saving frames and will bring back as many as 15 (plus other parts that he can stick on his truck and trailer). He will haul them free and he will also drop off along his route for those who can't make Reedsville. He has primarily Lark frames, but has some GT and some Wagonaire (X-frames) too.
He can be reached at candbstudebakers@sbcglobal.net , home phone
510-582-7328, or cell 510 266-2522.
