steering post jacket position

Is there some way to tell if the steering post jacket is turned to the right place around the steering post? It appears by just eyeballing it that the split on the lower end, when directly on top put the shifting rod in the correct place but I would like to know if there is some way to know exactly when it is in the right place.

On the later cars there was a little nub on the steering box that lined up with that split.

That is what I thought but I cannot find it. Thanks for responding, I will keep looking.
