  • 1961 Silver Hawk front clip swap

    I am rebuilding a 1961 Silver Hawk.
    The front clip is toast.
Been considering a 53 front clip and possibly doors(i like the indentions).
Anyone seen or done a Hawk with older sheetmetal on the front?
I'd like to see what it would look like before i jump in.
    Gonna keep the fins......

You will need 'everything' from a donor car to do this... All the sheet metal, and the braces, and the radiator, and the shroud.
    The radiator will need upgrading.
Also, be prepared to spend 2 to 3 grand on getting the two grille surround bars.....really.
When you say the front clip is 'toast', do you really mean the front fenders are shot?
There are decent fiberglass replacement front fenders available for a Hawk...
Also, you can get a whole fiberglass nose for a '53 front end...
You can even get a 'glass '61 Hawk hood if you want...

PS: again...it is a plain Hawk in '61...No silver, or gold in '61..

Not really going for resto. But i want to keep the car restorable.
I am thinking an older style fiberglass one peice and Hood.
Been trying to find a picture of a winged car with a 53 front clip.

The car was hit on the drivers side. The door post and door was destroyed(have a nos replacement).
It had major frame damage. The frame is from a macthing donor car.
The body is actually bent a little. Some of the body mounts are about an inch off.
The passenger fender is in good shape but i need to replace the rest.(using a hood and fender from a different cat for test fitting.
Have replacement driver door and kick panel.

And yes it is a 61 Hawk

Here's the only photos I have in my files, too bad the hood is open, but you get the idea. I really like the 53 style decklid with the fins.

            Thank you.
Thats what i was looking for.
Are the fenders from original or 53? The 53 didn't have air vents or fender mounted turn signals right?

            I really like the look.

53s did have the vent doors in the fenders, but not fender mounted turn signals. The car above looks like it started out as a 57 Silver Hawk, but has had Golden Hawk tailfins added.
