Calling All Truckers...and would-be truckers

The Studebaker Truck Farmers will ride again![8D]

Enthusiasm and interest is running high on getting this group going again. The purpose would be to have STF participation in local, regional, and international meets, and to extend the legacy of our wonderful Studebaker Trucks.

I'm compiling a list and adding to it those that would like to be recognised as Studebaker Truck Farmers.

Respond here to be included.
No truck needed, just a love for them (although I personally am now looking at trucks based on the interest generated in me by the Truck Talk Forum), just a pair of farmer style overalls and a cool straw hat.

I'm looking into having bandannas, hatbands AND/OR sew-on badges done for us in Hee Haw type logo (Liberty Jeans has discontinued the Hee Haw pattern overalls).

You can count me as a Stude Trucker. I own a '63 Diesel which I drove to Spokane last summer to the International.

Would the wife and me qualify as "farmers"? Well, not in the sense that we generate any income from what we grow. But we grow ALOT of crops thru the year and the ol' Transtar does it's part as is required to support our crop efforts.
60 tomato plants this year. 50 varieties amongst those 60 plants. We're overrun with tomatoes this year and we've cut the number of plants from previous years by 30![:0]
Wife put up a dozen quarts of yellow tomatoes on Monday and did 10 quarts of spaghetti sauce yesterday. An I got to help![^]
The Transtar gets to haul fertilizers, posts to support the shade structures (if we didn't shade the tomato plants, the sun would LITERALLY cook the fruits ON the vine!)
Given the mild winters here, we can have stuff coming up from the garden year-round. Summer's for corn, tomatoes, peppers & squash while winter's the time for beets, lettuce, carrots, onions, etc..
Fate willing, we'll both be in good enough health to do the same once the wife retires and can sell our stuff at the local farmer's markets. In fact, we have sold our gourmet tomatoes to local eateries in years past. Just too much else to do right now to pursue this in earnest.
But heck, I'd LOVE to have some of those coveralls to wear (in the winter, of course!) as I drive the Transtar here and there!

Does anyone have a vintage late '50's 2 axle trailer? I already have a hitch on my '57 E-40 and could load up one of my Oliver or Cockshutt tractors to prove that I am a "wannabe" farmer. Or better yet, Mr. Biggs could find me a Stude road tractor and I could haul in one of my Oliver crawler loaders and push some dirt!

Mr. Biggs could find me a Stude road tractor and I could haul in one of my Oliver crawler loaders and push some dirt!

What Mr. Biggs needs is a thirties Stude truck with the Canopy Express body! Paint it tomato soup red with dark green fenders, and display your veggies 'market style' on either side! You will get LOTS of admiring looks.

Does this count ? Its our ' 50 , the frame and motor are all done , the cab and front clip are ready for paint , just waiting for the humidity to go down some. Hope to finish up the box this coming winter.

My answer is: Anyone with a love for Studebaker Trucks is welcome and can be included, whether they have a truck now or not. It's not even required that you are a fan of Hee Haw. The Hee Haw logo just give us as a group something to let others know we love and promote Studebaker Trucks.

Certainly, small, medium, and large style trucks by Studebaker were used by the people who grew this country (and many other countries).

Of course, you'll probably have more fun as a Studebaker Truck Farmer if you rescue and bring back a Stude truck of any type.
