View Full Version : A note about replacement e-brake cables...

I fixed the e-brake on the Lark last weekend and found that the repro cables from SI (and others too, I'd bet) do not have the correct sleeve profile to fit the stock retainers where the cable enters the backing plate. Take a look:

The sleeve on the left is the way the cable comes out of the box. The stock retainers have a ridge that fits into the channel on the metal sleeve and captures it when bolted together. As you can see, the channel is there, but there's a "collar" that interferes with the retainer.

I had to remove the "collar" with my Dremel to make the sleeve fit into the retainer properly. The sleeve on the right is how it looked after I removed the "collar." After this, the cable fit right in and the retainer locked it to the backing plate just like it should.

Thought I'd pass this on, in case anyone else needs to do it. I also posted a detailed story on my blog.

Clark; looks like they are made for another make a car, certainly not Stude.! I just think it would be nice to know that up front, especially with BRAKE parts!
