STAGE
"Grease": A 1957 Studebaker is among the stars of "Grease," the new production at Stages St. Louis. Stages bought the car on eBay for $600 and spent another $1,500 to turn it into Greased Lightnin', one of the very few vehicles in all of musical theater to inspire a song all its own. (Those that share the distinction include "The Surrey With the Fringe on Top" in "Oklahoma!" and the "Meet Me in St. Louis" trolley that goes "Clang! Clang! Clang!")
An immensely popular celebration of teenage life in the 1950s, "Grease" is in previews now, opens Wednesday at 8 p.m. and runs through Aug. 20. Stages St. Louis performs in the Robert G. Reim Theatre at the Kirkwood Civic Center, 111 South Geyer Road. General admission tickets are $45, with many discounts available. For tickets or more info: 314-821-2407 or www.stagesstlouis.org.
