wire color

This is a very basic question- I just want to confirm something. I picked up an NOS gas guage for my '64 Lark. There is a red wire and a white wire. Is the red wire ignition and the white wire the sending unit? My shop manual has the wiring diagram but doesn't go into the colors as far as I can tell. -- thanks

There is a page in the front of the wiring diagrams that gives colors. The red wire (should also have black on it) goes to the sender. The white one (should have black on it, too) should be the one from the ignition switch. That's what manual seems to show.
