  • Plans for the new 51

The 51 Commander with the engine issue that I just hit the BIN on will be headed to Md in a week or so. If the 232 is a easy fix, it'll stay, if not, it'll be a 289 swap. maybe made to look like stock from the outside. I assume the DG 250 will handle a 2 barrel 289 ? Brian Scott has first dibs on the car when it's road ready.

I had a '53 Commander Starliner with a 259 V8 and a DG 250 that I drove for many years, including two round trips from NY to IN. I changed the transmission and converter fluid every year and had no problem with it. In fact, 30 years later, that car is still running the same configuration. I also owned another '53 Commander Starliner that I installed a '57 Golden Hawk engine, complete with supercharger, in and hooked it up to the '53 DG 200(?). Remember, Jaguar, and others, used these DG 250s for years behind some rather powerful engines. I don't imagine that your '51 has a DG 250.

My mistake, a DG 200 then. Just so happens I have a nice 57 Golden Hawk engine without the blower stuff.

I saw that car, and loved it; great color!

Bet the previous bidder with the $2500 bid feels foolish [:0][B)]

I'm just completing an engine swap in my '51 with a DG 200. I went with the 259 because I'm not confident that the DG200 can handle the torque a 289 puts out.

The early bidder is the reason I hit the BIN early. I was afraid it would hit reserve, the BIN would go away and we'd be off to the races. Since there was some interest in the car on the news group, I wanted to give them a chance to jump on the car before I did.
I may add a Buy It Now on the Daytona since I've already had offers to end it early.

4 doors or not, it's resale red and too cheap.

I swear you do, I keep tripping over the torque converter.
