  • Transmission, What is this?

On my 58 flightomatic, it is a long bolt that is located next to the fluid level dipstick/filler, and is bullet shaped on the end that goes into the transmission, it looks like oil runs against it and it has a lock nut to adjust it further in or out of the trans. It reminds me of a large fuel/ air adjustment on a carburator. What is it and how should it be adjusted?

This is one of the band adjustment bolts. It has a critical adjustment. Refer the shop manual for correct procedure.

Do you know if it is the reverse band adjustment?

According to the oil flow chart and the "operation description" in the Stude. Repair Manual the band adjustment bolt & lock nut on the outside of the case does adjust the rear band, it is in use in Low and reverse.
