What engine is this?

I have a 61 Lark convertible with what appears to be a 63 or 64 259 engine. The casting number is VJ303. Yes it is VJ, not VC, VL or VT. Does anyone know what this engine came out of? VJ does not appear in the list of casting numbers here: http://www.studebakerdriversclub.com/tech_v8data.asp

Yeah , I just had not seen a number like that before. Thought maybe it meant
"Pass Jaguar" , or maybe "Parnelli Jones".

If it was installed in a 1963 Cruiser, it wasn't the original engine in that car. That engine number is for a 1964 model Studebaker.

We bought a 63 Cruiser, freed the engine (this one) and then drove it around before parting the car out. The motor ran fine but showed no oil pressure. Who knows, maybe that after market guage was bad. The car was 'redone' at some paint and maybe the engine was replaced. Who knows... But if it REALLY matters to you Mr. Hahn, I can get all the #'s off the car and you could order the production order.

Hey, thanks for the info! Would love to know how you determined the date of production for this engine!? Also, the V stands for 259. What does the J stand for?
