Is it factory original or a custom? My grandad said something about a factory installed rumbleseat on Hawks. Hmm... Anyone?

ISTR a contemporary post factory kit being offered to add a rumble seat. Kind of a cute idea, not sure I would want one.

Back in the 60s, there was a kit to convert 1955-57 T-birds to a rumbleseat. It looks like it was a replacement panel for the trunk lid. The photo I have is from the top and I didn't notice a side mounted step.

I seen one of those where they took the back of the quarter panels (about 2 ft from the end) of a 57 sedan and put a seat where the trunk would go. They wanted nearly $300 for it, and teh tail light was broken! Wonder what happened to the rest of the car... [V] I'd hate to think of it being a Prez two door. [:0]

Anyone here seen Shrock's 41 Boatail Speedster. It made its debut at Gettysburg in 1980 and has been to many other shows.

Tom and Dave Shrock, http://www.shrockbrothers.com/ creators of the Shrock miniature Studebakers, have operated a body shop in the hills of central Pennsylvania specializing in Studebakers for decades, and have restored many show winners.

After seeing either an Auburn or Duesenberg boattail, they decided to make one from a Studebaker.

At that time they had 170 parts cars in the field and pulled two 1941 four door sedans, that were otherwise basket cases, in to the shop. Everything from the cowl back is handmade.

Last year they finished making a new Hawk convertible out of a Chrysler Sebring.

The Keystone Region will be visiting their shop on the 24th of this month to celebrate the shop's 50th anniversary.

I have seen the car. I am almost certain that it is a custom designed and built by the Shrocks (based on a '40, not "'41", I believe).
