Welcome aboard Darrell! We'd love to hear whatever you're willing to tell about your Studebakers.[]

Neat story about that single-digit body tag. Fact is, it's evidence of what we've been saying for years. That's that the body numbers aren't always in lockstep with production.
I've been accumulating body tags since the early 80s and of the 500 or so I have now, not one of them is a single-digit tag. I've got some that sport a double-digit line number, but I've never lucked upon one as low as yours. Not a BIG deal in the grand scheme of things, but kinda neat to know a tag is off one of the very first of a given breed.
There's a '41 Commander in the Los Angeles area that has body #1 on it. Can't find one earlier than that!

Again, welcome to the Stude world that's happenin' NOW![:0] We look forward to you sharin' with us.[^]

      Hello fellow Stude nuts:

I just signed on. I have heard a lot about this
forum from my Stude friends but am only now getting
back into using a computer a lot. I had to use one
when I worked and got tired of it, so when I retired
I avoided it. Beginning to see the advantage though.

I have 5 studes and one Avanti two. I have had a
Stude on the road, inspected and insured, for most of
my adult life, with the exception of 10 years in the late
      60's and early 70's.

Today I drive as an everyday car a 55 Champion 4 door sedan.
Its a stick shift without overdrive, and no radio.

I found it in a wrecking yard, along with a 56 President
Classic with a beautiful interior, about 10 years ago.
It was a sad sight and I didn't have much interest in it.
Both were to be sold together. I brought them both home.

While working on getting the 55 started I noticed the body
number. Here's the kind of excitement we want in the Stude
hobby. It was body number 5. I wondered why it was so
low so I got out my turning wheels and my index and
researched 55's. Real good articles. I learned quickly
that this was the year of the Ultra-Vista rap-around
windshield. Serial numbers were kicked up from the straight
windshield cars to the Ultra-Vista cars to the next 100.
By this I learned that my car was the 15th Ultra-Vista
produced. Boy, did I luck out. I want to find out if
my car is the earliest extant Ultra-Vista.

I plan to write an article about this car and submit it
for publication to Turning Wheels. I hope to find out
then if someone has an earlier wrap-around windshield car.

I know I'm going to get a lot out of joining the chat
forum and hope I may contribute something interesting
      to it.

My '54 Champion Starliner was built one week after production of the '54 models began, and it has body tag 117. I do wonder about body numbers 1 through 116 of this model, as in "How many still exist with a number lower than 117?".

For that matter, I'd like to know about number 118 too!
