  • My tach is stuck at 3000 rpm ....

At least the engine isnt. What could cause this? Its been off by
at least 1000 rpm since I got the car, then I found that the cigarette
lighter was disconnected, after I hooked it back up the tach went bad.

Oh .. 63 Avanti R1 .. manual trans .. etc. Where does it hook up?
Anyone have a link to a wiring diagram for it?

    Tom

    Tom,
Start with the wiring diagram in the shop manual. Chances are it's the tach head if the pointer is stuck with no electrical power to it. These have a sender up under the dash mounted to the metal cross brace. It's in a round metal container, about 3" in doa. Check all wires for freying or loose connections. Yopur comment about the lighter... bay be a short somewhere. Hope this helps

OK, update. I drove the car to work today (boy do I need an exhaust),
and the tach is now moving again. Its off by 1000 rpm (at least). I
think its a connection issue (image that! On an Avanti??). Thanks
for the input guys, I will check out the pic JDP.
