View Full Version : Timing for Studebaker Lark

I have a 1960 Studebaker Lark 6 with a 170 flat head 6. The timing is off. I replaced the distibuter cap and rotor. And all the spark plugs are in order. And it still wont start. It has a great battery, it is putting gas into the carb. And it spins great and it sounds like it will start but it wont.
Any ideas?

Is this the car where you confirmed #1 position on the cap by using the timing mark on the harmonic balancer?:)

If the 6cyl. is the same as a V/8 per TDC the rotor could be 180 dgrs. out. When the crank marks & the needle indicate TDC make sure the rotor is pointing at #1 not 180 away. The rotor in a V/8 turns counter clockwise maybe the 6 is the same, keep this in mind when placing the ignition wires in proper order in thr dist.cap

turn the distributor one way a little bit and try it. If it sounds less promising, then try the distributor the other way a little bit.
