Are there repair kits available for the Carter 2bbl on a 259 V8 (car is a '56 Commander). Alternatively, are there other model, readily available, carbs that can be adapted to the 259?

Thanks

You can buy a kit from one of the Studebaker parts vendors OR you can stop in at your local NAPA and tell them you want a kit for a Stromberg WW carb. MANY other vehicles used variants of this carb even into the '70s.;)

You can also get really high quality kits from Jon Hardgrove at
The Carburetor Shop. www.thecarburetorshop.com/ His carbs and
kits are a bit pricey, but they're top-notch. I've used a lot of
them and never had a complaint.

I've recently rebuilt two WCFB carbs using kits from Fairborn Studebaker & Studebakerparts.com (Chuck Collins). Both kits were fine with nice, fresh gaskets and accelerator pumps. I think both kits were in the 40-dollar range.:)
