Welcome Bill, nice to have you aboard. More than most have became Studebaker "Nuts" because of Studebakers in the past, dads,Grandpas, and /or outlaws or inlaws.
If you'll send me the photo, I'll post it here for you, and we'll know what it is. If you happen the know the body tag numbers, that would help.

Golden Hawk's were made in 56,57, & 58. The 57-58 are very similiar, the 56 has smaller vertical fins. Here's my old 57 Golden.

Ii know it's a little big, sorry. This is our 57 Silver Hawk. Not the "B" pillar that the Golden Hawk doen't have. Also, the fins are slightly different as the ones on the Silver Hawk kinda flow into the trim line as the Golden Hawk's fins make a point.

If it was a '53-'55, it was a Starlight or Starliner body. The first Hawks were 1956. Golden Hawks were 1956-1958. Silver Hawks were 1957-1959. Hawks were made through 1964.

Do you have more information, like was it a hardtop or coupe, did it have a Packard engine, was the engine supercharged, do you have the body plate information, do you have the serial number?

The '53/54 would look something like this. No fins, smaller grills.
