Are these the same motors? The motor attached to the outside of the firewall vs. that used on the assembly under the fender.

no, I think the under fender one is larger. Easy way to tell them apart - the pigtail of wire sticking out of the under fender one is yellow.

OK, thanks. I have the fender heater but no defroster one as there was a 12v on the car. Just wondering if they were interchangeable. Seems like the designers would have made them such to save production $.

Yes, I need a 6-volt unit. I see now from my parts cars that the two motors are physically different size, just didn't know about the shaft and my parts car unit is deeply rusted together and would be most difficult to take apart.

When you got me the wiper motor, I didn't realize the defroster unit was different than the heater unit.
