  • 1957 hawk brake lights

My brake lights are not working and I want to locate the stop light switch that should be near the brake pedal . Is it under the car or somewhere under the dashboard inside the car? This is the switch that turns the taillights on and off when you step on the brakes.

It's a hydraulic pressure switch, not a pin switch like you are expecting. It screws into either the brass block on the inside of the driver's side frame rail (with manual brakes) or the Hydrovac assembly (with power brakes.) It will have two wires connected to it, short those wires together, if the brake lights come on then you know its the switch

    good luck

Two red wires to be exact. And if you DO short them and get no lights at the rear, the next suspect is the turn signal switch. The brake lights circuit goes THRU the T/S switch (in the column).

      Miscreant at large.
