60mph/3000 rpm what is my axle ratio?

hi!
Curious about if my 63 R2 Avanti has the best axle ratio for highway travel.
Without taking off the rear plate and counting teeth, can someone
tell me what 4th gear 60 MPH at 6000 rpm is?

The Dana 44 in your Avanti should have a metal tag under one of the rear cover hold down bolts that gives either the axle ratio or the number of teeth on the ring and the number on the pinion gear (divide the ring gear # of teeth by the pinion number of teeth to get the ratio), or both. If the tag has been removed, you can determine the axle ratio if you know (or can compute or measure) the rear tire diameter. Use a calculator such as this one...

If you are truly running 3000 RPM at 60 MPH you certainly don't have the best rear end ratio for highway travel. You have one of the worst. You do have, however, one of the best rear end ratios for acceleration from a stop.

Oddly, N8 and I played with a R1 Powershift Avanti with a 4:11 rear. It was lots of fun to drive around town, but a PITA on the highway.

Here's a calculator you can use to solve your problem if you know your car's tire height. I'm guessing that would be about 27 inches. That would indicate the axle ratio is a 4:11 if you were talking about 3000 rpms. My first Avanti (automatic) had a 3.73 rear end ration and it was almost dead on 3000 rpm at 60. I drove it for over 2 years with the speedo not working because it was easy to calculate approximate speed. At 50 it read 2500 rpm; at 40 it was 2000 and so on.

in the event the tag is missing..look on pass side axle tube on top
should be the bill number...usually 6 digit-1 or more digits this number will tell, with the help of the right spicer manual, everythimg about that axle. good luck with your project..
incidently what is the ser number of the car?
