:)I am rebuilding the brakes on the 51 and have new rubber boots for the emergency brake cable. In order to get the boots on I had to cut the swedged end off one side of the cable (other wise it will not go through the guide). However, after I got the cable out I found that is was nearly worn in two on the part of the cable which was inside the guide on both sides.

The cable is 1/8 inch, 18 strand, and looks to be stainless steel. I think so because it has not rusted. It could be galvanize, but I donít think so. I have not been able to locate any cable like it locally. [?]Does anyone know exactly what the cable was made from and where I might buy 12 feet of the stuff?

[?]How were the original ends (stops) attached to the cable? I donít see any evidence that they were either soldered or brazed or even heated. [?]Were they cold swedged on? [?]Does anyone sell the stops? [?]If they were cold swedged, does anyone sell a tool for doing this job?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

To replace the e-cables on my 53 I just went to my local auto parts store and spent some time looking through their cabe catalog and found one that measured right and had the correct ends. you might be lucky and find a new replacement cable available for yours also. good luck and MERRY CHRISTMAS.
