1947 M-16 Starter motor help

  • 1947 M-16 Starter motor help

    I have a 1947 M-16 that has no starter motor, I am watching E-bay and other places in hopes one becomes available. Is there a more popular or modern motor that I can use?

    I don't think the M16 starter is unique. Studebaker used that motor from before WWII until '50 in cars and until the 60's (I believe) in trucks. If you are still 6 volts, you'd want a '55 and earlier one.

      I don't think the M16 starter is unique. Studebaker used that motor from before WWII until '50 in cars and until the 60's (I believe) in trucks. If you are still 6 volts, you'd want a '55 and earlier one.

        I may have one, but unfortunately it will be at least Saturday until I can get to my storage building to see. I took a couple to York (I know one was a 12 volt off a '58 Champion) but I think I had one off a M-16 that Bill Tilghman parted out while restoring the '42 M-15 he got from Asa Hall. I am in Virginia, so shipping might be an issue.

        As Dick says, try the STT page. I suspect that Ted Jensen or someone can help.
