Some years ago, I became aware of a pretty little '60 Lark 2-dr that was in town here. In fact, at one point it was for sale and I thought briefly about giving it a home. I didn't tho and someone else bought it and was using it as a daily driver for a bit. He was fond of it but decided after a time to pass it on to someone else.
That someone else bought it and also got my Ph# as the "local Stude guru" in case he ever needed any parts. In pretty short order, the new owner sought me out and as a result, I have yet one more, good Stude buddy here in town!
The little Lark's tried Steve's patience over time but he's prevailed and has turned it into something to be envious of.
To start off, the car was a 6. Steve asked about how he might change it to V8 and ended up buying another whole '60 2dr that had a V8 & 3spd O/D tranny. He stored the donor at my place while he took the engine to his house to freshen up. It was a 259.
Well, for various reasons, that engine ended up being a real pain to get back in shape. And even after Steve got it running, the tranny didn't want to do right and it was aggravating to say the least. Worse yet, in short order, the rebuilt 259 developed problems and was diagnosed with some broken rings and scored cylinder walls.
This all happened over some span of time and Steve eventually decided that if he were gonna sink more money into the engine, he'd like to find a 289 (or at least a 289 crank) for the extra horses that would afford the Lark.
As it happened, I knew of a 289 in a nearby wrecking yard. A full-flo no less and it was in a 2ton refridgerated delivery truck!
I'd been intending to save that engine thru a couple of years but just never got around to it so I put Steve onto it and he's gone thru it (it was actualy in remarkably good shape inside![^])to make it like new.
He finally drove the little beauty over to show it off tonight and I snapped a few photos to share. I think you'll agree she's a doll!
I think Steve's got good reason to be proud! [^]
