My avanti has been repainted before.
It has dark blue on it that I belive to be laqcure with red oxide primer under. The blue is checked all over like a dried mud flat.
I woud like to go with a base coat clear coat system.
Could you paint guys give me a outline as to how far i need to sand
and what primers to use on fiber glass
Thanks for the help.

If the blue is checked, you will need to go down to at *least* the primer - get all the blue off.

If there's several layers of paint (test an inconspicuous area) you may have to strip the whole car completely. I have heard tell that the best way to strip an Avanti is manually, with a razor blade. Seriously. If you use a chemical strip you will need to wash the car WELL and leave it "breathe" in a garage for a month or two before applying any primer. I do not know if any kind of media blasting is appropriate for fiberglass. Hopefully you will find however that you only have one layer of paint.

I've had fiberglass Soda Blasted with success. That will take the paint and the primer off. You will be left with the bare gel coat. That may even get removed if they are not careful.

Soda blast all the way to glass and start fresh on a "repainted" car.
