I recently installed an pertronix Ignitor in my 1961 Hawk. After a little while the tach quit working. I fixed the tach one of the brushes inside the sending unit the wire burned up. I am wondering if the new ingniton kit caused it.

I guess it would depend on the quality of the tach.

I've had the cheap "Autogage" Autometer tach. with the Pertronixs unit for about 6+ years now, with no problems.

Probably just a coincedence.

Sounds to me like he's using the factory stock tach. I can't feature any modern tack-on tach employing any sort of "brushes".;)

Purely coincidental, I'd bet. There shouldn't be any connection between the two, electrically or mechanically.

BTW if you are having issues with your stock tach, replacing the wiring might not be a bad idea either. I have dimensions somewhere on my web site if your stock harness is too badly deteriorated to copy. I made a couple replacement harnesses once upon a time but they're not really a hot item without the connectors, which I haven't found a source for.
