I have a 63 Lark 2Dr that was a 6cyl car originaly. I think it is considered a custom model. Body tag is 63S F6 891. Looks likes the Red Tomato. I haven't weighed it but my guess would be 3200-3300 lbs. It has a 289 .40 over with flat top pistons and the thick head gaskets. I put a Isky cam in it and an Edelbrok 600 carb. The heads and everything else is stock down to the 3.31 rear end gears. Best ET to date is 15.07 @ 89 mph. I was wanting to build another engine about the same specs for an 47 M Series 1/2 ton short bed truck that is in pretty sad shape (rusting)in the back yard. I've seen a couple M Series trucks with Stude V/8s. There was one in Spokane. Is the 63 Lark lighter than an M Series with a V/8 ? [8D]
Thanks, Gordon

My swag would be the pickup being lighter.

The base weight of a 1963 Custom two door six is 2680 pounds. An equivalent model V8 would be 2940 pounds, but there is more difference than just the engine. I think that the truck would weigh more, due to the frame, but I don't have the weights here.

You are probably pretty close on the weight of your Lark. The Tomato weighs about 3350 depending on how much gas is in the tank. I have no idea about the truck weight but my guess would be it is lighter.

The reason why I'm asking about weight is because its the cheapest way to go faster. :D There are a couple of trucks that run at our local drag strip that make you think WOW trucks arent supposed to run like that! One is a really cool 46 Chevy 1/2 ton that runs 11's. I was thinking it would be cool to see my 47 short bed Stude truck rolling down the strip with a Stude V/8. My truck is whole but rusty in spots. Its not like I would be gutting a cherry M Series truck. I think it would cut the wind as good as a Lark. Everything is in the thought process. My 12 year old is wanting a junior dragster also.[:0] She has a few years to go before she can run the Lark.[8D]
My daughter goes to every event that I run the Lark. She started chosing my ET's for eliminations based on my time trial. Can't start them to young about racing Studebakers.:)
