View Full Version : 1960 Lark Rear End

I just bought a 60 Lark 4door sedan with the 259 V-8 motor. It is in great shape and has been sitting since 1991. It is a manual shift and when driving it shows a noticeable "clunk" sound when shifting gears. Thinking it just needed u-joints I pulled the driveshaft. The problem is in the rear differential. When you turn the pinon gear yoke it has a lot of slop and the whole thing makes noise.
Does anyone know where I can send the whole rear end to get rebuilt or does anyone have a good fresh one that I can swap out. I live in colorado about 50 miles north of Denver.

We have a 4x4 shop here in California. We rebuild axles as well as building axles to custom specs. We're a little too far from denver. It shouldn't cost too much to rebuild your rearend. I don't know of any places near your location. As long as the ring and pinion are ok then bearings and seals are all it should need. Does it have Twin traction? I had that problem with my Avanti and I just needed to adjust the shims on the axle shafts.

Lots of good used rear ends are out there, I can't give away open rears anymore, even type 44's.

it's a DANA, amy good 4x4 or Jeep repair can handle it.
